After a three year hiatus after your self titled album you started to work on your fourth album “You won’t get what you want“. The change in sound and atmosphere of the record is clearly noticeable – do you evolve naturally or do you, as a group, have a common desire to push boundaries and try to have every album sound different?

Danny Howard:

Both, there was a natural evolution and a desire to expand what the band sounded like. For the moment we dont enjoy writing the same record twice.

Musicpress:
Apart from music, has anything important happened in your lives during the time between 2010 ́s S/T and your recent album? Can we see some correlations between such important events and your new music? How did those years change your view on music in general?

Danny Howard:

Of course! Our break from writing was roughly 2009 – 2014, a lot can happen in 5 years. People lost friends and family, people started families, people became ill, people became healthy…  All that in mind, only a bit of my personal life sneaks into my music. I can’t speak for the other members, though I use music to sometimes block out moments or issues from my life. Whether those negative or positive experiences are actually charging me while I write or perform.. thats for my shrink to decide i suppose

Musicpress:
You say you are open to any kind of music influences. Where do you find your inspiration? Can you name any particular bands?

Danny Howard:

I wish i could say I found my influences in cassettes that were being passed around, or in fan zines I found at a local record store, but those days seem all but gone now. These days its all there on the internet, you just have to dive in.  This week I’m listening to the following:  Majeure, Kraftwerk, Idles, The Budos Band

Musicpress:
What does your creative process look like? Do you guys meet and discuss new ideas or do you work separately?

Danny Howard:

My creative process feels like a personal crisis and probably looks like a fucking disaster.  Just imagine floors covered in notes, xlr & 1/4 inch cables, broken guitar strings, batteries, guitar pedals. I stop sleeping, I’m usually in a horrible mood, manic, coffee non-stop, tissues for the tears, advil for the headaches… but thats just me.  We work both separately and together. Since no one really lives in the same town its typically a long distance effort sending files back and forth.

Musicpress:
Some time back Anthony Fantano, maybe the best known music critic on youtube, gave your last record 10/10. It really does not happen often and of course the world noticed. Do you think that review got you in front of a new audience? What do you think about his review?

Danny Howard:

To be honest I was not aware of Mr Fantano before that review. I believe other members of the band knew who he was, though i chose to live under a rock, or so i’m told. After further inspection, I really dig him. He’s got a refreshing take on music and his reviews are thorough and fair.

We make this music for ourselves first, so though we chose to share it with the world it doesn’t really matter whether people enjoy or it not, but its nice when someone really likes it, its nice when someone speaks honestly about it, and its totally fine and fair if someone completely hates it.

Musicpress:
Do you think your fans in each country act differently during your concerts? From your perspective, how do they receive the message of your music? During your EU tour you ́ll visit your fans in Bratislava as well. We hope you will like it there.

Danny Howard:

Theres subtle differences everywhere, but I’d like to think we’re all punks (for lack of a better term), and for the most part punks are all the same gathering in a room to listen to some loud live music they enjoy. The energy is always there.  I dont pretend to understand what message people take from our music, thats for them to decide.  Im thrilled to finally play in Bratislava!
