Keď prídete o všetko, môžete sa trápiť, alebo otočiť list a začať odznova. Americká performerka a hudobníčka Laurie Anderson o svojej strate napísala knihu All the Things I Lost in the Flood, ktorú naživo predviedla na holandskom festivale REWIRE.

Svoj príbeh prišla – do luteránskeho kostola Grote Kerk v holandskom Haagu – vyrozprávať jedna z najväčších multimediálnych rozprávačiek 21. storočia Laurie Anderson.
Jej piesne, albumy a projekty sú intímnou výpoveďou toho ako žije, čo zažila a prežila, či už so svojím manželom Lou Reedom, alebo svojou sučkou Lolabelle. Anderson otvára poslucháčom a divákom dvere do svojho súkromia, ale necháva aj pustenú „televíziu“ premietajúcu v nej celospoločenské udalosti – prírodné katastrofy, voľba prezidenta, vojny…
Medzi spomienkami a prítomnosťou. Tak skoncipovala svoj projekt All the Things I Lost in the Flood, v ktorom rozoberá vzťah medzi hovoreným slovom a hudbou. Počas hurikánu Sandy prišla o značnú časť majetku a vietor odfúkol aj spoločné veci s manželom Lou Reedom. O rok neskôr zomrel aj Lou.
Mnohí ľudia vidia práve v hmotných statkoch to, čo im pripomína ich zosnulých blízkych. Keď sa pozrú na vázu, rozpamätajú sa na miesto, kde ju kúpili, keď listujú vo fotografiách, ako keby listovali v spomienkach. Anderson ctí budhistickú pominuteľnosť, takže keď jej mandalu zatopilo, cítila žiaľ, ale aj úľavu. Obrátila čistý list a začala odznova.
Samotná Anderson, aj v preplnenom luteránskom kostole, na veľmi decentne nasvietenej scéne s videoprojekciou, ktorú sama režírovala, tvrdila, že ľudia majú konkrétne očakávania. Chcú žiť dôstojne, zarábať, milovať, zomierať rýchlo a bezbolestne. Mať priateľov a rodinu.
Laurie Anderson zase túži po splynutí so svojimi poslucháčmi a po spoločnom zdieľaní umeleckého zážitku. A tým najväčším bol výkrik v priestoroch chrámu. Ale nebol to hocijaký krik, ale psychedelický, avantgardný vresk venovaný Yoko Ono. Viete si to predstaviť u nás?, kde len pomyslenie na hudbu Mariána Vargu škrtí kolarik katolíckych kňazov?

Celý kostol, vyše tritisíc ľudí, vypustilo na desať sekúnd zo seba emócie. Strach, hnev, obavy, radosť, smútok. Je len málo umelkýň, ktoré dokážu tak prirodzene prepojiť publikum so svojou predstavou. Dokonca to fungovalo aj na tých, čo neovládali angličtinu. Lingvistické schopnosti performerky boli prezentované s nádherným akcentom. S hovoreným slovom dokáže divy, a keď svoj alt modulovala do mužského hlasu, prišlo prepojenie s jej zosnulým manželom Lou Reedom.
Kniha All the Things I Lost in the Flood sa skladá z ôsmich kapitol a Anderson ju čítala a prednášala bez prerušenia, čo zdôvodnila aj tým, že jej prestávky a otvorené konce robia ťažkosti. Ani jej koncerty nemajú nikdy pauzy. Koniec prišiel znenazdania a všetci diváci po hodinovom nádychu, vydýchli vo veľkom potlesku. Zastavený čas opäť plynul.

When you lost everything, you can be sad about it and mourn, or just turn the page and start over. American performer and musician Laurie Anderson wrote a book about her loss. It´s called „All the Things I Lost in the Flood“, which she have performed at the dutch REWIRE festival.
Tales are as old as the world. In the past, they were delivered through a memory of generations, now we can rely on technology. Our world offers many occasions to base an interesting story on, but don´t you think nowadays storytellers lack some sort of directness and eye contact with their listeners?
Laurie Anderson – one of the greatest multimedia storytellers of 21th century, has come to Grote Kert – Haag´s lutheran church, to tell us her story.
Her songs, albums and projects reflect her inner intimate world and relationships with her husband Lou Reed, her dog Lollabel, but she also tells us about her life and experience. Anderson leaves a door to her privacy open for listeners, but we can hear her thoughts on world events, catastrophies, american elections and politics as well.
Between the memories and the present. That is the concept of her project „All the things I lost in the flood“, where she explains a relationship between spoken word and music. During the Sandy hurricane she had lost a great amount of property and the wind had also flown away most of her things she had with her husband Lou Reed, as well as memories. Lou Reed has passed away the next year.
Many people see their departed loved ones in things they had been part of them – such ordinary things as a vase, which they remember where it was bought, or when they look at a photograph, they see their past. Anderson believes in buddhist principle of temporariness, so when her mandala was flooded, she felt grief but also relief. She turned the page and started over.
Anderson, on stage in crowded lutheran church with subtle lightning and videoprojection, which she directed herself, stated that people have a certain expectations. They want to live a decent life, to earn money, to love and to pass away peacefully and painlessly. To have a friends and a family to love.
Laurie Anderson wishes for strong connection with her listeners and for shared artistic experience. The greatest experience was the scream inside the church. It was not a plain and simple scream – it was a psychedelic, avantgarde screech dedicated to Yoko Ono. Can you imagine something like this in our country? Where priests are offended just by a though of Marian Varga´s music?
Entire church, about 3000 people relieved their emotions for a couple intense seconds. Fear, anger, worries, joy, sorrow. Not many artists can connect their audience with their vision this well. This even worked for the non-english speakers as well. Anderson´s linguistic skills were presented with a beautiful accent. She can truly do magic with her spoken word, especially when she modulated her alto to a male voice, impersonation of her deceased husband Lou Reed was very real.
The book titled „All the Things I Lost in the Flood“ has 8 chapters and Anderson have been reading the entire book without any pauses, explaining that pauses and open endings create troubles. Their concerts have no pauses as well. The end of her performance came surprisingly and audience after an hour exploded to a great applause. Frozen time has again started to flow.
